Hospital de Sant Pau
A magnificent work by Lluís Domènech Muntaner, the hospital de Sant Pau i la Santa Creu was started in 1902 under the assumption that it must be a modern, hygienic hospital privileging the well-being of in-mates. When it was inaugurated in 1930, king Alfonso XIII was so impressed that he stated: “You Barcelonians are pretty paradoxical people: you put your sick ones in a palace but your king in a stable.”
